Workforce Development

The West Harlem Development Corporation (WHDC) collaborated with West Harlem Group Assistance to establish the West Harlem Skills Training Center (WHSTC) at 500 West 134th Street to assist West Harlem residents with job placement and training. In its first year, job placement was 30% higher than the norm. From 2013 through 2017, WHDC has made grant awards of $1.4 million to 20 nonprofit organizations to assist resident of MCD9 with employment and skills acquisition.

Workforce Partners

WHDC is a member of Pathways-to-Apprenticeship (P2A) initiated by Local 79 Laborers Union. P2A has received a direct entry status. This has helped WHSTC to steer local residents into good jobs in the unions. Here are some of our other workforce partners:
