High School Visual Art Competition

February 20, 2020

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery Competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

High school students from the 13th congressional district are encouraged to submit entries to U.S. Representative Adriano Espaillat’s office, and a panel of district artists will select the winning entries. Once selected, winners will be recognized both in the district and during an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol during this exciting opportunity to highlight the creativity and artistic expression that New York’s 13th congressional district has to offer.

The original artwork may include submissions of paintings, drawings, collages and photography. Please see the forms linked below to review the complete list of rules and regulations for the 2020 competition for students and teachers.

Entries for this year’s competition must be submitted via email to We ask that each entrant submit only ONE original artwork per submission.

The deadline for submission is Friday, April 24, 2020.
