WHLDC to fund 200 Summer Youth Employment Program positions
April 10, 2013
West Harlem Local Development Corporation will give 200 West Harlem teens and young adults hard-to-find summer jobs, providing them with invaluable workforce training they will take into their future careers.
This year’s Summer Youth Employment Program is WHLDC’s third round of funding for West Harlem youth between the ages of 14 and 24. In 2011 and 2012, WHLDC provided almost $1 million in funding to summer youth employment.
This year, WHLDC will provide $261,600 for West Harlem youth, and the city’s Department of Youth and Community Development will administer the work assignments.
The funding is in addition to grant money awarded in March to local organizations that also provide programs and employment for West Harlem youth. WHLDC awarded $2 million in grants to 83 organizations, many of which serve West Harlem youth throughout the year.
Summer Youth Employment participants have to live in the Community District 9 area and will work through local organizations. To apply online, please go to the Department of Youth and Community Development’s website.
