West Harlem Development Corporation launches it’s pilot Summer Senior Employment Program (SSEP)
June 11, 2013
On June 10, 2013 WHDC held it’s first information session for it’s pilot program to place seniors of 55+ in summer employment. WHDC’s summer employment program (SSEP) is it’s first initiative targeted for seniors in Community Board District 9. SSEP is being offered in partnership with ReServe, an organization that has 8 years of experience in placing seniors at non-profit organizations and government agencies. Reservists work an average of 12 hours a week and are paid $10 an hour.
WHDC will fund about 60 placements. Judging by the 35 attendees at the first information session, the program will fill a big need for seniors to contribute their varied skills while earning extra income. For seniors who have reached retirement age 66 or older, they can keep all their benefits regardless of amount of monies earned.
A second information session will be held on Wednesday, June 19,2013 2:00-4:00 p.m at the WHDC office located at 423 W.127th st.,Suite A(Ground Level) between Convent and Amsterdam Avenues.
Please R.S.V.P. to Natali Ramirez at NRamirez@westharlemdc.org or call 646-476-3394 to attend.
