WHDC Chair Judge Milton A. Tingling Named a 2020 Harlem “Change-Maker”
West Harlem Development Corporation (WHDC) congratulates our board chair Judge Milton A. Tingling on being honored as a Harlem “Change-Maker” by the New York Amsterdam News. The salute recognized 30 individuals for their “leadership, commitment, and direction” during 2020, the most “historic and challenging year of the past century”. WHDC has benefitted from the leadership of Judge Tingling who, during his tenure as board chair, has deftly guided the organization to fulfill its mandate. Of his many accomplishments, Judge Tingling is credited with creating additional support for West Harlem nonprofits through the global COVID-19 pandemic by approving the Special COVID-19 Impact Grants, an additional round of funding for the vital work done on behalf of the community.
Judge Tingling is not only a “Change-Maker” but a “History-Maker” and “Difference-Maker” in the lives of every person he touches. He is the first African American ever to serve as County Clerk in New York. Judge Tingling is also a member of the only three-generation African American family of judges in United States history. From mentoring young attorneys to handing out turkeys to families in need, the Judge is a constant presence of leadership, service, and excellence. We at WHDC are very grateful to have Judge Tingling at the helm of our organization, and we look forward to his lasting legacy of tireless work for the benefit of all.
