WHDC recognize West Harlem Seniors at SSEP Program End Celebration

September 20, 2017

WHDC celebrated West Harlem Seniors at Boys & Girls Club in Harlem on Tuesday, September 19th in recognition for their involvement in the Summer Senior Employment Program sponsored by West Harlem Development Corporation and partner organization, ReServe. Nearly 50 seniors attended where they enjoyed a luncheon in their honor, presentation by WHDC/ReServe staff to acknowledge their contributions to their work sites and community, and viewed a slideshow on their activities through the summer.

Since its inception in 2012, the Summer Senior Employment Program (SSEP) connects residents of West Harlem, age 55+, with rewarding, part-time summer employment opportunities at nonprofit organizations throughout New York City.   Participants utilize their existing talents and/or learn new skills while earning a modest stipend of $11/hr. for 120 hours while engaging partnering organizations.

“This is a great opportunity for Seniors to get involved and stay active in their community…I have been doing this for 5 years and it is a program that provides work opportunity that is sustainable, gives credibility and a modest stipend to our Seniors who have contributed to their communities and want to continue to do so.” – Caroline St. Ange, Account Manager, Reserve New York.
